A recognition of the relationships, expertise and values that have stood the test of time

For half a century, MIB has been helping individuals, businesses and institutions navigate risk with confidence. As Malta’s first insurance broker, established in 1976, the company has grown alongside the country itself, earning a reputation built on professionalism, expertise and long-standing client relationships.

A legacy built on trust

Speaking during the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations, chairman Joseph Cutajar reflected on MIB’s journey over the past five decades, describing it as a story shaped by the trust of clients, the dedication of employees and the vision of those who helped build the company over successive generations.

That theme of trust was echoed by Prime Minister Dr Robert Abela, who described MIB as an example of a Maltese business that has successfully grown, adapted and continued to raise standards over the years, supported by strong client relationships, consistent professionalism and continued investment in people.

The celebrations were attended by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna, who offered a blessing to mark the occasion and reflected on the importance of trust, responsibility and service in building lasting institutions.

Growing with Malta

MIB’s story is closely linked to Malta’s own economic and social development. As the country evolved, so too did the complexity of the risks faced by businesses and individuals.

Over the years, MIB has provided insurance and risk management solutions across a broad range of sectors, including infrastructure, energy, utilities, maritime, aviation, financial services, manufacturing, hospitality, real estate, gaming, international business, major events, cultural heritage and film production. The company has also been involved in insuring projects and organisations that have contributed significantly to Malta’s growth and development.

Expertise when it matters most

Throughout its history, MIB has supported clients through periods of uncertainty, change and challenge. From everyday claims to some of the most significant and complex losses experienced locally and internationally, the company has built a reputation for providing informed advice and practical solutions when they are needed most.

As highlighted during the anniversary event, insurance is about far more than policies and paperwork. It is about experience, judgement and knowledge, helping clients protect what matters most while enabling them to pursue opportunities with confidence.

People at the heart of the business

While the insurance industry has transformed dramatically over the past fifty years, one element has remained constant: people.

In his address, Joseph Cutajar paid tribute to the employees, past and present, who have contributed to the company’s success, as well as to the clients and partners who have placed their trust in MIB over the years. Their loyalty, commitment and expertise have been central to the company’s continued growth.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of organisations that invest in their workforce, noting that people remain one of the key drivers of sustainable business success.

Looking ahead

While the anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on the past, it was equally an occasion to look towards the future.

As technology, cyber threats, emerging risks and changing client expectations continue to reshape the global insurance landscape, MIB remains focused on innovation, expertise and service excellence. Drawing on five decades of experience and strong international partnerships, the company is committed to helping clients navigate an increasingly complex world.

Prime Minister Abela also emphasised the need for continued collaboration between the public and private sectors, stressing that businesses which invest in innovation, quality and people will play an important role in strengthening Malta’s competitiveness and creating new opportunities for growth.

Building on 50 years

A 50th anniversary is not merely a celebration of longevity. It is a recognition of the relationships, expertise and values that have stood the test of time.

As MIB enters its next chapter, the company remains guided by the same principles that have defined its journey since 1976: trust, professionalism, innovation and a commitment to putting clients first.

50 years on, that foundation remains as strong as ever, positioning MIB to continue supporting Malta’s businesses, institutions and communities for generations to come.
